Character Name: Kel (Headcanon full name: Kelsey Armando Alvarez)
Canon: OMORI
Canon Point: Post Truth
Age: 17
History: Here it comes!
Is this character an AU? What type?: He's a CRAU from a previous game, Labyrinthum. I left in November or something but he's taken a few months before that.
AU History: Right post the Truth ending, Kel rushed after his brother not really knowing how Hero was feeling after Sunny's words, that's when he was 'taken'.
I am not sure what the game is like now, but he has been around for some horror events and had the chance to discuss his problems with his friends, process the 'truth' Sunny dropped on them and get the motivation to protect his friends no matter what.
The game offered horror events and he had to face off a lab that messed up with you and made you live other people's memories if I'm not wrong (I know he saw headspace even if it was technically all in Sunny's head), he got to see plants trying to invade and attack them flooding their living areas, all that good stuff.
He also had a lovely treehouse he somehow kept clean, plus a roommate and their pet cat.
The game had a strong 'event of the month' flavor with a big event every two, I think, and with the ability to gain powers and become stronger Kel had a chance to slightly move past the 'normal teenager' level.
Personality:
Kel is a walking 'ray of sunshine' for the most part. His canonmate Basil may be the one often compared to sunflowers, but he's the one trying to always look forward and find bright sides in everything that happens (And even when he can't, he does his best to show others things will be fine.). He is fond of animal, fond of oranges ANd the color orange and he loves sports of almost any kind. Good at tossing balls around, his specialty is running around and by the gods he HAS ENERGY TO SPARE. He can and WILL run around if allowed.
He's one of the most present characters in the 'real world' route of Omori (He also exists in headspace, but the one there is a childish and self centered counterpart which barely reflects the person he currently is) and we get to see him as someone who is a 'driving force' to get the protagonist out of his house and push the narrative forward. He's not someone who sits idly by and let things happen, he's someone who can AND will do his best to face things without fear.
It's not like Kel has no fears, worries or concerns, quite the contrary, it's especially clear in the manga he's actually dealing with a few things himself, but he's more like- someone who will try to face them on his own instead of relying on others. His brother seems to be the one who can ready past what's basically a 'always happy face' and even in the game we only really see him crash once after witnessing Basil's death in one of the routes of the game. He's good at pushing down his own feelings because other people's come first.
Speaking of 'other people': Kel is a devoted friend to those he considers 'close', to the point he will easily put their well being before his own if needed. it's been something part of his persona for the longest time, wanting to see others 'happy', Sunny remarks on that himself during their last night together and we see it in how, in a time of hurt, he put his brother first even if said brother was hurting him in that moment. As Kel put it 'at least after that he got better'. There are themes of self esteem and worth issues to see with this boy, but unless he gets really close to people he's not very likely to talk. He is very likely to prioritize other people's well being over his own regardless.
He also tends to feel lonely very easily, even if he tends to befriend almost everyone. We see him talk to strangers while waiting for his friend to be done with his part time job, we see him talk with people, yet more than one adult character mentions him 'looking lonely'. His bonds are possibly very superficial with most people and to many he may just appear like someone who doesn't take things seriously. Kel also tends to rush into things, trying to solve problems in his own way but not always picking the best choices.
Kel also seems to have troubles focusing on books and texts, probably some kind of attention deficit that's hinted in the game but never really explored. (The fandom seems to agree on adhd though.)
CRAU: Due to his previous experiences, Kel is more inclined to believe in supernatural things and he's a bit more resilient to actual horror themes. Despite being a teen, he can and will face hands down monsters if needed- at least as long as he feels he has someone to protect.
He also learnt the truth about his friend Mari's death and had time to process it. He likes to consider himself more forgiiving as a person than he used to be and he will at least *listen* to people if they do something he considers wrong.
Powers and Abilities:
- Good speed: For a human? Kel is incredibly fast. He has no super powers in this context, thought, he's just really good at running.
- Basketball player: He likes them sports, boss! But, really, give him a basketball and he will gladly drag everyone around into a game if he can.
- Water control: Despite being vague in terms, Kel obtained control over one element and his choice was water. He could generate small amounts of it, spent threads learning how to walk/run on water surfaces and knew how to spray mist in the air for special effects. His control over it was growing but still very limited by the point I pick him.
- Baker: He chose to learn to cook for his friends and somehow he walked on his beloved brother's steed, learning the basics of cooking but also finding himself quite enjoying time behind a large oven.
Inventory:
- His rommate's cat.
- No, seriously, that's it.

When presented with a choice, is the character more likely to stick with tried and true methods? Or make something new up on the fly?
- IT DEPENDS. Does he believe in tried and true methods, like how he believes in his family's traditional recipes and feels confident in trusting the process? Yes, of course, he will stick to traditions even if it means spending three hours on a dish preparation. Food better be amazing tho!
Is it something he's emotional about? Is it something that makes him afraid? Angry? If Kel is emotional he's very likely to improvise new things on the spot or go his own way.
He's also not very likely to make very smart decisions at times but he's a teen. A teen! he's expected to make mistakes, right?
What is more important to your character, preserving the past or forging a future?
Being stuck in the past hurt so many people in his life and Kel has always been the one desperately trying to reach for the 'new' so... he's looking forward. The only thing he truly clings to are his friends and family.
How does your character influence their own story? What about the stories of others?
In his own story? In OMORI? Kel was literally created to be the main driving force in the Real World parts. Since Sunny is a shut in who wouldn't move on his own, OMOCAT created Kel (her own words) so the main character would have someone gently pushing him to leave the house at first, then making him go trough the adventure by positive reinforcement and all.
He's a positive presence who has his own issues, who struggles, but who will try to see the best in people and try to rise others up when he can.
Are you alright with your character’s canon being used as a Recommended Reading?: Yeah sure- just know OMORI is a very... difficult game. Plenty of heavy themes.
